What’s cuter than a little kitten? A little kitten dressed as Gandalf, Dororthy or Princess Leia.
Texas photographer Wendy McKee knows this, and applied kitten cuteness dynamics to stray cats up for adoption by sewing costumes of famous film and TV characters in tiny-cat sizes. Her efforts so far have drawn the attention of media outlets from Huffington Post to the Today show and eager new pet parents.
McKee began her efforts at adoption strategies this year when three cats she took in had kittens. A lot of kittens. A total of 17. She had to get creative.
She drew up patterns for clothes and crafted kitten costumes from Princess Leia in “Star Wars” to Gandalf and Frodo Baggins in “The Lord of the Rings” to characters in “Doctor Who” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
To date, many of the kittens have been adopted, according to McKee’s reports. This could save her from the tiny cringing moments she’s experienced at the craft store, all for a good cause.
“It’s sometimes embarrassing to go to the store because they always ask what project you’re working on. When you say you’re working on a cat costume, they look at you a little weird,” she told the Today show.
