The Hallmark Channel’s Third Annual Kitten Bowl is set to premiere this Sun., Feb. 7 at 12:00pm, and this year we’re more excited than ever for the cute and cuddly event because social media is playing a huge role in the festivities. And really now, what is social media without kittens?
“The ‘Kitten Bowl’ franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and ratings success where viewers of all ages and demographics can watch and connect,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO, Crown Media Family Networks. “This year’s game will bring unique and innovative content across digital and social platforms that will keep viewers engaged while simultaneously encouraging and educating millions on the importance of animal adoption.”
Presented by Hallmark Channel in conjunction with the North Shore Animal League America, Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, and Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Lightweight Cat Litter, Kitten Bowl III recruited nearly 100 kittens to partake in the on-field festivities.
While scratchable goal posts (for keeping their claws on point), and toys were present in the game; the sidelines were brimming with water bowls, litter boxes, and catnip galore (perfect for unwinding between quarters). Also in attendance, a few of our favorite faces from last year, including host Beth Stern, announcers John Sterling and Mary Carillo, and Boomer Esiason in the role of FFL Commissioner.
“Not only are these cats some of the best players in the Feline Football League, but also they are looking for their forever homes,” said Boomer Esiason. “These champions will make loving and playful additions to any family looking to adopt an animal in need.”
Though all of the participating kittens have since gone on to their forever homes (the show was taped in Oct.), viewers can still get in on the feline fun via a variety of online offerings. The Cat-Lete Card Creator allows you to create a player card for your very own kitty; virtual voting gives you the chance to vote for the 2016 MVK (Most Valuable Kitten); Player Profiles enable you to get up close and personal with each kitten; and, our personal favorite, a kitten Emoji keyboard! Yes, it’s a thing; and yes, we’re obsessed! Snaps, a mobile messaging company, was awesome enough to create a Hallmark Channel Kitten Bowl III Emoji Keyboard that features all participants of the Kitten Bowl, divided into four teams of pawsome players – from Adam Vini Tabby to Howie Longhair!
The Keyboard, available for download now in the Apple Store and on Google Play, will get you psyched for the upcoming game; but will also feature an interactive element that won’t become available until kickoff. In other words: kitten surprises! Kitten Bowl III will air on the Hallmark Channel on Sun., Feb. 7 at 12 pm, with follow-up showings at 3 pm and 6 pm. Will you be watching?
