Kate Walsh: Dog Ownership Keeps Me Humble

Actress Kate Walsh explains why she won’t pay someone to scoop her dog’s poop.

Kate Walsh may have a new hit TV show, “Private Practice,” and a new husband, Alex Young, but the mega-star isn’t afraid to get down and dirty.

“I still pick up my own dog poop,” Walsh told Ellen DeGeneres on her show Tuesday. “Basically everything’s the same except that we have a bigger house.”

Walsh says she won’t hire a dog poop pick-up service. “You just can’t ask someone to do that. I can’t. People are like, ‘Listen there’s a service.’ I’m like, I can’t in good faith,” she said. “It’s a good exercise in humility. You just got to get down there.”

“There’s nothing like a picture of me in the backyard holding up a bag of poop,” she joked.

The actress wed Young, a production co-president at 20th Century Fox, over Labor Day weekend in the town of Ojai north of Los Angeles. Walsh’s dog Lucy was not at the wedding, but the mutt’s presence was felt when the bride burst into tears during the ceremony upon discovering a note in her bouquet that Young had written in the dog’s voice.

“Private Practice,” which also stars Taye Diggs and Tim Daly, airs Wednesdays on ABC.
