Jon Katz Goes Back to Bedlam Farm

"Izzy & Lenore” delves deeper into the author’s connection with his dogs.

It’s back to Bedlam Farm this month in “Izzy & Lenore: Two Dogs, an Unexpected Journey, and Me,” Jon Katz’s latest book to examine the delightful menagerie at his upstate New York farm, made popular in the bestselling “The Dogs of Bedlam Farm” and a string of other popular books.

“Izzy & Lenore” delves deeper into Katz’s connection with the beautiful, once-abandoned Australian Shepherd Izzy and introduces readers to a jet-black Labrador Retriever puppy named Lenore.

Katz and the dogs visit nursing homes throughout upstate New York, and many of the encounters make their way into the book, including an 80-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who smiles for the first time in months when she strokes Izzy’s hair, and a retired logger who happily remembers his own beloved dog during another visit.

“Katz examines [the] mysterious power the dogs have in their interactions with the humans around them,” says Brian McLendon, publicity director for publisher Villard.

“Izzy & Lenore: Two Dogs, an Unexpected Journey, and Me” arrives in bookstores Sept. 23.
