A York, Pennsylvania, cat has a guaranteed forever family after taking a bullet and possibly saving a young boy’s life.
It was Thursday morning when Angelica Sipe heard the stray bullet come through one of the windows in her home, WPMT Fox43 reports.
“The first thing I did was check on my son and he was sound asleep,” Sipe told the news station. “Then I saw my cat on the floor, and that’s when I realized my cat was shot.”
Sipe said the bullet apparently went through the top of Opie’s head, out the bottom of his neck, back into his shoulder and out his armpit rib area. And if that wasn’t enough, the bullet ricocheted — hitting the couch Sipe was sleeping on before flying across the room to a love seat and lodging in a pillow, just inches from her 3-year-old son Daemire, according to Fox43.
Tearing up, Sipe said she is convinced Opie saved her toddler’s life by taking the full force of the bullet and slowing it down. She now is determined to save the cat’s life in return.
Opie was treated at a nearby emergency clinic, underwent surgery and has a drainage tube and stitches. The vet bills have reached almost $1,000, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the cost.
“It could have been my son,” Sipe told Fox43. “He was my son’s little hero, so I need to keep him around.”
