If dogs could speak with humans, you can be sure that they would have a mouthful to say. “Can you take me for a walk?” “Can we go for a car ride?” “I want to go play at Dog Beach.” But one thing that is almost always on the mind of a dog is food. And in this classic YouTube clip, titled “Ultimate Dog Tease,” a man teases a dog, who talks back in human speak.
The man in the video starts his tease by mentioning food to the dog, and specifically the food in the meat drawer of the fridge. The man starts with bacon, describing it to the dog, who responds, “the maple kind, yeah.” The man then proceeds to tell the dog that he took it out, and he ate it. The dog howls in anguish that he didn’t get to eat any of the bacon. The man then mentions that there was a juicy steak in the meat drawer and he ate that as well. The dog whines yet again that he didn’t get to eat some of that steak.
And for the final tease, the man mentions how there was chicken in the meat drawer and he sprinkled it with cheese and cat treats, and the dog in anticipation of at least getting some chicken, asks what he did with it, and the man says he gave it to the cat. The dog of course was visibly and verbally bummed out that he didn’t get any meat from the meat drawer that day.
The video, which was uploaded to the Talking Animals YouTube page on May 1, 2011, has been viewed more than 182 million times and has 76,000 comments. It took some crafty editing by videographer Andrew Grantham to tease out a “speaking dog” from the footage, but it works so well that it is making the rounds again, five years later.
