Two shelter dogs who made headlines when a photo of them hugging went viral have found new homes — and an endless supply of hugs.
In July, Kayla, a hound mix, and Keira, a Boxer mix, were snapped as they held onto each other in an Georgia animal shelter. If the two of them had not been adopted by the end of that day, they would’ve been euthanized. But the photo went viral, and within two hours, a foster family stepped in and literally saved their lives at the last minute.
Now a pair of two-legged best friends (and roommates) have taken the dogs in permanently. According to a Facebook post from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, Kayla and Keira have been adopted by Wendy and Pam, two women who were touched by the dogs’ story after reading about it in People magazine.
“It just fell together,” Wendy told the shelter. “We turned our tears into smiles with these two young, playful dogs.” Sadly, Wendy had just lost her two dogs before “the hugging dogs” made it into the magazine.
“Now here we are,” the post — written from the dogs’ perspective — said. “A family and home to call our own.”
That is the best possible happy ending.
