Dog owners looking for a one-stop dog show can visit the 30th Annual Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows (RPWSDS), taking place from Thursday, July 19, 2007 to Sunday, July 22, 2007.
Organizations, associations, breeders, breed clubs, exhibitors and dog lovers convene in the Houston Reliant Center to promote the principles and practices of responsible dog ownership.
On the education and awareness front, Houston’s Bureau of Animal Regulation and Control (BARC) alert show goers about the importance of registering and inoculating your dogs. Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) informs the public of the need to control canine reproduction. Experts from Eukanuba, a major supporter of the show, discuss proper dog nutrition.
Attendees can also take the AKC-developed Canine Good Citizenship Test, sit in on seminars and presentations, and visit Meet the Breed to learn the importance of dog breed awareness.
The show offers spectators who have an eye for dog competition and performance conformation, agility, flyball, obedience trials, canine Frisbee, and canine musical freestyle.
For the duration of the show, the venue houses dog-related art from the Mari Jon Filla Student Art Show as well as the Third Annual Designer Doghouse Competition and Showcase. Visitors bid for these abode creations at the silent auction; proceeds go to Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) shelter.
Admission is $10 per day, $5 for senior citizens, and free for children 12 or under when accompanied by an adult. Tickets available at the show or via Ticketmaster.
