Houston Astros Raise Funds for Homeless Dogs

Professional baseball players teamed up with an animal rescue organization to promote shelter dog adoptions.

Houston Astros players appeared at the Saving Animals pet adoption center on Sept. 29, 2007, to autograph calendars and raise funds for homeless animals as well as the Astros in Action foundation, the team’s nonprofit organization.

The calendar features the baseball players posing with pets.

In addition, owners who brought their dogs with them were able to have them microchipped for free by Bayer Animal Health and Saving Animals veterinarians. Approximately 40 dogs received microchips; several dogs and cats were adopted at the event as well.

Houston Astros players, Saving Animals, Petco and Bayer Animal Health worked together to produce the 2008 Astros Player and Pet calendar. Calendars cost $15 and are available online at www.astros.com/petcalendar
