Not only does the Hotel Penn lobby fill up with dogs of every size and description imaginable during Westminster week, it is a fun opportunity to meet dogs and dog lovers from all over the world, and sometimes to get a photo with them and their championship ribbons.
The list of exclusive dog amenities grows each year and New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania is outdoing itself again by adding agility practice equipment this year for the Westminster’s newest event, the Masters Agility Championship, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 8.
That’s right, instead of just looking good, dogs are going to be competing this year at Westminster in agility, the fastest-growing dog sport in the country. And for the first time in its 138 year history, the competition at Westminster is open not just to purebreds, but also to Mixed Breed athletes.
The Masters Agility Championship, held two days before the main dog show at Westminster, will be open to dogs competing at Excellent and Masters level. That includes purebred dogs, mixed breeds registered in the American Kennel Club’s Canine Partners program, Miscellaneous breeds not yet eligible for conformation competition, Foundation Stock Service recorded breeds, and Purebred Alternative Listing dogs (purebred dogs that cannot be fully registered).
And to get in shape for the big event, the Hotel Penn offers special workout areas for its canine guests. For the week surrounding Westminster, 4,000 square feet on the hotel’s lower level is converted into a one-stop area chock full of amenities just for the dogs.

Amenities include the largest in-door doggie spa in all of New York, the 1st In-Line, Inc., sponsored Green Room Salon, Spa and Canine Gym. The dog spa offers a variety of features and services for show participants: bathing and grooming parlors, exercise fitness area, agility equipment, animal massage, animal acupuncture, and walking area with his and hers relieving area.
The Paw Mall, located at the Dog S’paw’, will feature all the latest accessories and gifts for both owners and pets to enjoy, from jewelry to pet clothing. And the hotel itself offers a variety of events during the week, including a dog fashion charity competition and several national dog specialty conformation shows.

But the big event is the 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which takes place on Feb. 10 & 11, 2014, with daytime breed judging across town at Piers 92/94. Direct shuttle bus service for dog show exhibitors and spectators will be offered from the hotel to Piers 92/94 each day of the dog show, courtesy of Westminster. The hotel is conveniently located directly across from the Madison Square Garden, where Junior Showmanship Finals, Group Judging and Best in Show will be held.
