Do you love Chinese food? Are you a huge Hello Kitty fan? Now you can have the best of both worlds when you visit the Hello Kitty-themed Chinese food restaurant in Hong Kong. Hello Kitty, a Japanese-created character, is wildly popular in Hong Kong.
Man Kwong, the owner of the restaurant, told TIME, “Hello Kitty is more popular in Hong Kong than in [her native] Japan.”
Opening the restaurant proved to be a long, somewhat tedious process. Man Kwong began negotiations with Sanrio in late 2013. The company, which owns Hello Kitty, didn’t agree to the restaurant until April of 2014, according to TIME. That was followed by myriad variations of dim sum that Sanrio execs had to approve. Luckily, the company has since approved 37 items and customers can indulge in stir-fried beef and noodles, fresh shrimp buns and more. Even though the process of making the food is somewhat involved – TIME reports there are 17 steps to making the buns – the result is fantastic.
