For more than 40 years, Hello Kitty has been a favorite of many children (and adults, too!) around the globe. The adorable fictional character has been depicted in doll-form and on clothes, accessories, home appliances, tech products and more.
Now the beloved brand is serving up something new — burgers, milkshakes and an interesting mix of fusion foods at the Hello Kitty Diner, which opened earlier this month in Sydney, Australia, reports the Daily Mail.
Hello Kitty Diner Australia reportedly is the first of its kind; unlike other restaurants highlighting the white Japanese Bobtail cat with human features, this eatery combines Asian-fused food and eye-catching décor with the American diner experience.
“We do burgers, snacks and drinks based on an American typical diner style with an Asian fusion; so for burgers we have a Gee Gee burger, which is fried chicken in Korean barbecue sauce and a Dotti burger which has salt and pepper tofu,” creative director Dorothy Wang told the Daily Mail. “We also have the Maple burger — a pork belly, pink lady apple and maple bacon creation.”
Menu items also include French fries, lamb ribs, Southern fried chicken and waffles, as well as Aussie favorites such as salted pretzel, pancake, yuzu curd and white chocolate and more.
Wang told the paper that people have travelled from all over to experience the eclectic food, fluorescent lights, brightly colored stools and is already a hit with customers.
“Our first customer was from Melbourne and we have had a lot of overseas students and visitors in so far,” Wang said, adding the wait time is about one hour. “We get a lot of enquiries and we do want to let everyone in – I don’t want walk-in customers to be turned away and we want to look after the people who travel all the way here to come and eat.”
