If you’re lucky enough to have a dog, you might want to scratch him a little more behind the ears, hug him a little more tightly and maybe give him an extra treat after you watch this short film.
Lucinda Allanson, a student at Riverside Christian College in Queensland, Australia, captured all of the joy and sadness of sharing your life with your dog her film, “If Only I Could Speak.”
The 4-minute clip shows the intertwining lives of a man and his Boxer, from the first day they spent together until the last.
The film has titles interspersed with the images, each one a thought from the dog’s perspective.
“I appreciate the things you’ve done for me,” the dog thinks. “All the days you’ve spent with me.”
As the Boxer grows from a clumsy puppy to a curious adult, the film shows everything from the good times (chasing a ball on a beach, sharing an ice cream cone) to the bad, as the man mourns someone that he loves.
But when a title card appears that says, “I’m old now,” just know that it’s a good time to reach for the box of tissues. And to reach for your own dog, too.
