If you were just thinking how there aren’t enough cat movies, you are now in luck.

Chinese company Alibaba Pictures Group and “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman announced Sunday that they will make “Warriors,” a fantasy movie based on the book series of the same name, Yahoo reports.

The books, which have reportedly sold more than 30 million copies, follow the adventures of four clans of wild cats: ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan. Written by Erin Hunter, a pseudonym for the writing team of Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, Tui Sutherland and Victoria Holmes, the series has a fan following in many countries, including China. The film is intended for worldwide audiences, according to Yahoo.

“Alibaba Pictures is planning to turn ‘Warriors’ into a film franchise that will bring to life the spectacular animal and jungle worlds depicted in the novels, using world-leading visual effects,” APG president Zhang Wei told Variety last month.

Heyman, an independent film producer behind “Paddington” and “Gravity,” told the Associated Press that there is no script yet for the movie, which most likely will be a combination of live-action with 3-D computer generated cats.

No word yet on when the movie might hit theaters, but in the meantime here is a trailer for the book series.

Sounds epic!

  • I have been a fan of the books for some time now. The series was suggested to me when I worked at the public library because I am a “cat person”. I am now retired (or as the warrior cats would say, an elder!). I will be watching for this for sure!

  • I will check out this series. Hope there isn’t much fighting or violence. We have always had cats & have 6 adopted from shelters currently.

  • Movies and books about massive cat fights – no thanks. Cats are not really pack animals like dogs anyway.
