Hard to Resist

One look at the Scottish Fold's sweet expression and you'll fall head over heels for the breed.

In the movie Shrek 2, Puss in Boots effectively stops several soldiers in their tracks by gazing at them with a wide-eyed, innocent expression. The moment in the movie brings about “ooohs” and “aaahs” from the animated characters — and from audience members watching the film.

Such “ooohs” and “aaahs” often result when cat lovers see the sweet Scottish Fold for the first time. The breed’s distinctive ears and large eyes combine to create a lovable look that proves difficult to resist. “What first attracted me to the Scottish Fold was their adorable sweet face with the big round eyes all set in a round head with tiny folded ears to cap it off,” says Dawn Sartz, a breeder from Chandler, Ariz. “Then add the fact that they are not very vocal, have a sweet outgoing temperament and seem to stay young at heart no matter how old they get.”

Quiet Companions
The Scottish Fold’s gentle, quiet personality wins over many fans. Cat lovers also appreciate the cat’s affectionate nature and its loyalty to its family members. “They love companionship and will follow you from room to room to be near,” says Connie Littlefield, a breeder from Powder Springs, Ga. “They love being with their families and tend to get along well with other pets and children.”
