Greyhound Crowned ‘Superstar Smiles’ Winner

Comet, a rescued racing Greyhound, takes top honors in photo contest.

Greyhound CometComet, a 5-year-old Greyhound, has taken the top spot in the Superstar Smiles Photo Contest, sponsored by Sergeant’s Pet Care Products’ dental brand, Petrodex.

The contest invited dog owners to submit photos of their canine companions sporting healthy, happy smiles. The aim of the contest was to help raise awareness about the importance of pets’ dental health, according to Sergeant’s.

Nearly 2,000 photos were entered in the contest. Radio personality Steve Dale was tasked with selecting the grand prize winner.

“In the end, Comet’s personality showed so clearly through his photo that I knew he was the winner,” Dale said. “That dog truly has star quality.”

Comet was a racing dog until he broke his leg in a race. Despite numerous surgeries and therapies, the Greyhound could not recover enough to return to racing. He retired from the track at the age of 3 and was adopted by Barbara Masi of Boynton Beach, Fla. Now he serves as an “ambassa-dog” with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

“He’s a happy smiling dog because he’s had a very good and happy life,” Masi said in Comet’s acceptance video.

As the grand-prize winner, Comet will be featured in a Petrodex advertisement in DOG FANCY magazine. He will also receive a professional photo shoot with Masi and a variety of Petrodex dental products.
