GoPro Gives Us A Turtle’s View Of The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is a wondrous sight to behold; check out how it looks to a sea turtle.

Australian conservationists with the WWF were able to get as close as possible to that experience by attaching a GoPro to a turtle’s shell.

No matter how many trips we make to the Great Barrier Reef, no matter how many glass-bottomed boats we sit in there or how many times we snorkel or scuba dive at its location in Queensland, Australia, we’ll never experience it quite the way marine life does. Australian conservationists with the WWF were able to get as close as possible to that experience by attaching a GoPro to a turtle’s shell. The team shared the video on YouTube.

In the description, they noted that they are working on a project to “find out more about the level of pollution affecting turtles within the Great Barrier Reef… As part of that project, the opportunity arose to very carefully fit a small GoPro camera to a turtle, to better understand the post-release behaviour of tagged green turtles. The result is this amazing video.”

Amazing indeed.
