Both Poodle and Golden Retriever breeders should address genetic issues in the breed before producing a litter.

Q. I am researching the genetic health issues for both Poodles and Golden Retrievers because I am seriously considering purchasing a goldendoodle puppy in the spring. I have been unable to find a website that has that type of information. Any guidance you may give is most appreciated.

A. Both Poodles and Golden Retrievers have genetic issues that responsible, knowledgeable breeders aim to address before producing a litter of either breed. I do not condone the deliberate cross-breeding of dogs when there are already so many mixed-breed dogs sitting in shelters waiting for good homes, and purebred dogs sitting in breed rescue also waiting for loving homes. I would strongly encourage you to rethink your puppy-purchasing plans.
