When a man says he’s going to sail the world with his chick, we tend to think he means his girlfriend. But when it comes to 24-year-old Guirec Soudée, he literally means his chicken.
Soudée of Brittany, France, and Monique, his pet chicken, began their journey around the world back in May 2014, BBC News reports. Their trip began in the Canary Islands before the two sailed to the Caribbean’s St. Barts. They reached the Arctic last August. Sounds like a fun trip, but why a hen?
“I knew she was the one straightaway,” Soudée told BBC News. “She was only about 4 or 5 months old then, and had never left the Canary Islands. I didn’t speak any Spanish and she didn’t speak any French, but we got along. I thought about a cat, but decided it would be too much effort to look after it. The hen was an ideal choice. It doesn’t need that much looking after and I’m able to get eggs at sea.”
So how is their adventure going?
