New dog announcements are just as common (if not more so) nowadays than baby announcements. And now there’s another one making the media rounds (dog announcement, not baby). Freddy the dog is the newest addition to the family for 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush.
“[We] are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our family, Freddy Bush,” President Bush wrote in a post on his Facebook page yesterday.
The couple visited the SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center last week as a means of thanking them for the work they do. As is what happens when most of us dog lovers go to an animal shelter, the Bushes brought home a new puppy.

Bush added in his post that the whole family already loves the little dog, including their cats, Bob and Bernadette.
“Freddy’s charm [is] futile to resist,” he said, while encouraging others to adopt a pet from a rescue or shelter.
The SPCA of Texas also posted on its Facebook page about the visit President and Mrs. Bush made.
“During their time with us, they went on a behind-the-scenes-tour, got to know many of our staff and volunteers, and made everyone’s day by taking the time to speak with and take photos with all,” the post read.
