Food Transition For Young Ferret

What should be done if a young ferret wants to eat kibble?

Q: I got a new ferret in early March 2009. This female ferret is 9 weeks old. I already had a male, 14-week-old ferret. My 9-week-old keeps eating the hard food and not the soft food I made for her. She just wants to eat the older ferret’s food. What should I do?

A: Ferrets are able to eat hard food fairly young, so she is fine eating the hard food if that’s what she wants. There are some foods designed for baby ferrets that both your ferrets could eat, at least for a while. If your ferrets are both on adult food, make sure it is a high-quality ferret food to ensure proper nutrition.
