Florida Cat Shelter to Hold Catnip Ball Fundraiser

Adoptions, donations at the shelter have dropped since Hurricane Katrina.

Since last years string of hurricanes, according to staff at Cats Exclusive, a shelter for abandoned, abused and stray felines in Margate, Fla., cat adoptions have declined, as have financial donations.

So in an attempt to remedy its financial strain, Cats Exclusive is hosting the Catnip Ball, which includes silent and live auctions, raffle drawings and dinner from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 24 in Hollywood, Fla.

With adoptions at an all-time low, Cats Exclusive a no-kill organization has reached its capacity, and is unable to accept any more kittens or cats until more of the current residents have been placed into homes.

The adoption cost for animals at the shelter is $65 to $85, which includes shots, spaying/neutering and testing for AIDS and leukemia.

Tickets for the Catnip Ball are $50 a person, and reservations are required. One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit the shelter. For information, visit http://catsexclusive.org.
