Actors and Others for Animals, a Los Angeles-based animal welfare organization, is offering a special program to sterilize 400 cats in Los Angeles County free of charge in support of Spay Day.
Spay Day is an annual campaign by the Humane Society of the United States to inspire people to save animals’ lives by spaying or neutering their pets and feral cats.
Running through March 9, Los Angeles County residents may register online at the website of Actors and Others for Animals to receive a voucher for a free spay or neuter for their pet cats. Surgeries must be completed by April 20, and there is a limit of three vouchers per household.
The program is sponsored by the Petco Foundation and a grant from the California Community Foundation.
The spay/neuter vouchers are redeemable at 10 participating veterinary clinics:
- Animal Clinic of La Mirada
- Clinico/San Pedro
- Crenshaw Dog and Cat Hospital
- Fix Nation
- Gateway Animal Hospital
- Golden State Humane Long Beach
- Lynwood Animal Hospital
- PDI-Pet Doctors of Industry
- Spay and Neuter Clinic of Simi Valley
- Valley Vet Hospital/San Gabriel
“We firmly believe that the only way to solve the pet overpopulation problem and end the killing of so many unwanted animals is through spay and neuter,”says JoAnne Worley, the president of Actors and Others for Animals.
In the past 10 years, the group has facilitated the sterilization of more than 125,000 companion animals.
