Ferrets And The Need For Darkness

Do ferrets need darkness for their health?

Q: Would you suggest that we keep our ferrets’ cage draped with a dark cloth (like bird owners do at night) during certain hours so they can get more darkness to improve their health? Their cage is in our basement, which has a window without a curtain.

A: It is very important that ferrets get enough sleep, just like birds or any other animal. If your ferrets’ cage is not in the dark at night, then having it draped to simulate night is a good idea.

A better idea would be to have a quiet and dark time at night for your ferrets so they can get their normal sleep.
