As most foster parents will tell you, providing temporary care to cats in need will make a big impact on your life, but for Heather Kennedy, it has actually changed the course of hers. Her experiences fostering sick shelter cats inspired her to pursue a second career in veterinary medicine. When she graduates from University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, Kennedy’s goals are to work toward finding a cure for the fatal disease that claimed the lives of her favorite foster cats and also to prevent future generations of cats from entering shelters.
“Several years ago I had planned to transition from a successful career in retail management to business school, but unbeknownst to me, the cats were concocting an insidious plan to manipulate me into becoming a veterinarian,” Kennedy jokes.
