Rarely does the phrase “I live with nine cats,” bring to mind a luxury home with equally illustrious felines. But times are changing, and we now are seeing a new trend in the housing market that centers on pet-friendly homes. From custom-designed rooms to luxuriously appointed apartments, sharing a home with your favorite feline is taboo no longer. In fact, entire houses are now designed and built with our pets’ comfort in mind. With six out of 10 U.S. households sharing their homes with at least one pet, it’s little wonder that the housing market has become more pet-centric.
Sisal-wrapped scratching posts are being replaced with customized jungle gyms and sassy cat chaise lounges. But the biggest changes are happening in the construction industry, with cat owners adding on entire rooms specifically designed as pet retreats, and many people are designing new homes that incorporate heated floors and customized floor-to-ceiling ramps for their favorite felines.
