Fashion Goes to the Dogs – for a Cause

As the world continues to buzz about Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, fashion went to the dogs in New York City.

During Fashion Institute of Technology’s third annual pet apparel fashion show, Fashion After Bark, at FIT’s Katie Murphy Amphitheatre, the dogs sashayed down the runway in one-of-a-kind fashions created by designers enrolled in the design school’s Pet Product Design and Marketing Professional Development certificate program. This year, FIT partnered with Posh Pets Rescue to feature adoptable dogs in the fashion show, which attracted guests like model Allie Rizzo, stylists Alexa Winner and Lauren Rae Levy and socialite Cleo Coco Lettry Vauban.

“At FIT we believe in protecting the environment and sadly, many wonderful dogs are abandoned in New York city every year,” says Joan Volpe, managing coordinator for FIT’s Center for Professional Studies. “We are promoting the idea that you can easily find a loving pet without a huge financial investment, and you can save a dog’s life.”
