A family with two kids and three dogs thought an energetic kitten would be the right cat addition to their home. But when they went to adopt the young cat they had in mind, they left with a 20-year-old senior cat, Dexter, and couldn’t have been happier.
When Dexter passed away earlier this month, the family created a loving goodbye video and shared it on YouTube. “Dexter’s farewell” shows snapshots of touching moments between the family and their clearly adored cat.
“The best cat in the entire world has left us. We will never forget the love and happiness he gave in his very short time with our family. Rest in peace, Dexter.”
Jill William’s page shows many videos of the tuxedo cat and his adopted family. She shared a bit of his backstory on the text to videos, and it sounds like both the family and the cat were lucky to have found each other.
“Dexter is a 20 year old cat who was rescued from a hoarding situation. You might think a toothless old cat this old in failing health would just want to be left alone. But Dexter craves attention. Especially from his two new human brothers: Harry (age 7) and JJ (age 5). It’s never too late to save a life. There are so many great animals waiting to find their forever home in shelters across the country.”
Dexter will be missed but his legacy could live on. We hope everyone who sees this video and the others shared by Dexter’s family will inspire other people to adopt senior pets.
