As Tropical Storm Isaac hits the Gulf Coast, North Shore Animal League America is deploying Mobile Rescue Units staffed with Emergency Response Teams and replenishment supplies to the regions that might be affected by the storm.
Emergency Response Team members will offer assistance to those affected by the tropical storm by offering food, water and any other essential supplies, along with shelter for the storm’s displaced cats and dogs.
A third Animal League America Rescue Unit is being deployed today in anticipation of assisting pet shelters that maybe impacted by Tropical Storm Isaac. NSALA Rescue Teams are prepared to assist and transport as many dogs and cats as possible back to the Port Washington facility, where they will be medically evaluated, treated when necessary, and then put up for adoption.
NSALA deployed its first Mobile Rescue Unit to the Humane Society of South Mississippi on Aug. 26 after receiving the request to assist in the evacuation of nearly 100 dogs and puppies in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac. These pets had been relinquished to the organization and were currently ready for adoption at their Mississippi facility.
In addition to evacuating nearly 100 pets, the Humane Society also held an emergency Microchip Tag and Rabies Vaccination clinic this past weekend for pet owners in the region to assist them in preparing their animals for the impending impact of Tropical Storm Isaac.
A second Animal League transport vehicle was deployed to the region to evacuate nearly 50 cats. The Rescue Team returned to the Port Washington facility on Aug. 28 with nearly 150 animals from Mississippi to be put up for adoption into loving and permanent homes.
The Animal League’s Emergency and Disaster Rescue Program safely evacuates animals out of harm’s way. The team is ready to help save animals’ lives, whether they are responding to national emergencies or natural disasters.
