Kathleen Zuidema got her wish. The Friday Harbor, Washington, woman just wanted to find a home for her three dogs before she died and, thanks to a Facebook post that made its way around the world, she has.

Zuidema’s trio of Australian shepherds — the Aussie Posse, as she calls them — have been adopted by a couple who lives on the same small Washington-state island, Q13 Fox reports.

“I feel really, really, really relieved and great about it,” Zuidema told the local news station. “But on the other hand it’s heartbreaking.”

She’s right. Zuidema has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and she knew she needed to make arrangements for her pets before her health declined too severely. She turned to social media to share her story and was completely overwhelmed by the response her post received.

“I get really mad sometimes that this is having to happen,” she said. “But what’s come out of it has been overwhelming.”

She met with several prospective adopters, but none of them seemed right to her. And then Danielle Cochran literally knocked on her door. Almost immediately, Zuidema knew that she’d found her dogs’ new home. Cochran and her husband have two other dogs but were eager to add the Aussie Posse to their family.

During Zuidema’s final months, siblings Moka Luka and Finnegan — the two youngest dogs — will slowly transition to their new life with the Cochrans, but 11-year-old Autumn Moon will stay with Zuidema until her last day.

“I got everything I wanted,” she said, “except for the dying part.”
