‘Doggy Duathlon’ to Test Dogs’ Athletic Skills

Swim, run competition challenges dog athletes and owners in New York City.

The Doggy Duathlon competitors are pumped and ready for race day. One lucky dog will swim and run his way to be crowned the Iams Doggy Duathlon World Champion.

The 2008 Doggy Duathlon gives canine athletes a chance to grab the spotlight from their human counterparts. No longer will these dogs, who train alongside their owners, be left on the sidelines on race day.

The Iams Doggy Du gives man and woman and best friend the chance to compete in tandem over a 1,500-meter-swim and 10-kilometer-run course. The event takes place July 20 during the 8th Annual NYC Triathlon.

The swim portion of the dog competition is at the Hudson River between 99th and 72nd streets. The run portion is in Central Park. Dogs will be checked for good health by a team of veterinarians before the event.
