A dog named Kayla has faced horrible abuse, but that hasn’t stopped her from expressing love and happiness.
The sweet puppy had her eye gouged out and one of her front legs crudely cut off before being rescued by Los Angeles, California-based group Hope for Paws.
Founder Eldad Hagar wrote on his Flickr page that Kayla was in a lot of pain when she was picked up in Tijuana, Mexico. In addition to her wounds, Kayla had Ehrlichiosis, which is a dangerous disease carried by ticks, as well as internal parasites.
Kayla underwent extensive surgery to have what was left of her eye and leg removed, and she is now on the road to recovery. Despite her horrific ordeal, the plucky pooch is somehow still filled with nothing but love. She enjoys belly rubs and giving kisses, according to Hagar.
“She is so tough, and she handled this whole thing better than I ever would!” Hagar wrote.
Thanks, Hope for Paws, for rescuing Kayla and giving this affectionate, tail-wagging girl a chance to live a happy, healthy life.
