In 1943, Bing Crosby had a top ten hit with “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” In 1954, Perry Como reached number eight on the charts with “(There’s No Place Like) Home for the Holidays.” And in 2015, a sweet Pit Bull named Harriet is just hoping that she’ll be able to sing along with either one.

The 6-year old dog has spent more than 1,100 days — just over three years — in a Texas animal shelter, according to her Facebook page, and no one can figure out what is taking so long for her to find her forever home.

Harriet once had a family, who adopted her from Rockwall Animal Rescue in a Dallas-area suburb. But her owners lost their home and could no longer afford to keep her, so she was taken back to the shelter. And, for the past three years, she has lived in a fenced-in kennel, undoubtedly wishing that she was somewhere else.

According to the shelter, Harriet has been spayed and microchipped, is good with people (although not other dogs), is housebroken and crate trained, loves walking on a leash, riding in the car and even swimming.

WHO could possibly resist this face!?Harriet is so full of joy… whoever brings this girl into their home will have surely won a kind of jackpot! ♡

“We just do not get it,” shelter staff wrote on Harriet’s Facebook page. “There isn’t a more loving, well behaved, gentle and deserving girl.”

Those who might be interested in adopting Harriet may contact Meri Lou Mahoney at the shelter at (469) 698-8898 or make an inquiry through her Facebook page. We sure hope she gets her wish — it’s been a long time coming.
