In today’s crazy news story, a woman in Indiana is recovering after her hunting dog shot her in the foot.
And to make this story only slightly more ironic? The dog’s name is, Trigger.
According to Indiana Conservation Officer, Jonathon Boyd, 25-year-old Allie Carter, placed her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground without the safety on while hunting waterfowl with her Labrador. The gun went off after Trigger stepped on the shotgun.
Trigger shot his owner in the left foot at point-blank range, causing damage to her foot and toes that was treated at two different hospitals before being released home.
It’s very important [to have gun safety training],” Marine veteran and lifelong shooter Deloren Thompson told ABC57. “From kids on up. if you’re going to have a gun, know the safety, and know how to use it when you use it.”
The state of Indiana even offers a free hunter education course, which is available at in.gov/dnr. According to authorities, Carter had not taken the education course.
Whatever your stance on gun control, I think we can all agree that dog’s shouldn’t own guns, unless they are properly trained to use them.
We are glad Trigger and his owner are both okay.
