Dog Fashion Show Raises $240,000

Annual charity event for Washington Humane Society featured human and dog models.

More than 1,200 guests attended the Washington Humane Society’s third annual fundraising event, Fashion for Paws, March 28 at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C.

Fashion for Paws brings together fashionistas and animal lovers alike to benefit the Washington Humane Society’s programs. This year’s event raised more than $240,000 for the animal welfare agency, making the total amount of money raised from the fashion fete since its inception reach $570,000.

The presenting sponsor and event chairman for the second year in a row was Michael Saylor, president and CEO of MicroStrategy Inc., a business intelligence software company. Honorary chairs included actor Val Kilmer, dog trainer Victoria Stilwell, NBC’s Luke Russert, and D.C. councilman Jack Evans.

The fashion show featured 60 of the city’s most notable personalities as runway models who were escorted down the catwalk by fashionably dressed dogs. Human models wore selections from the spring 2009 collections of 7 for all Mankind, Betsey Johnson, and MaxMara, to name a few. Canine models strutted their furry stuff in designs created by Kristina Robertson of Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique of Alexandria, Va.

After the fashion show, guests were invited to dance the night away to music from the band, The Frustrations.
