A Golden Retriever came to the rescue of a baby deer struggling to swim in the Long Island Sound in New York. Mark Freeley captured video of the rescue, which shows his Golden Retriever Storm pulling the fawn to safety.

Freeley was walking along the beach this weekend with Storm and his other dog, Sarah, when Storm sprang into action, Fox 13 reports.

“Storm just plunged into the water and started swimming out to the fawn, grabbed it by the neck, and started swimming to shore,” Freeley told CBS New York.

In the video, which Freeley posted to YouTube, Storm appears to grab the fawn by the neck and pull it to shore. It’s hard to tell what exactly Storm’s intentions are at first.

“I think he’s trying to save him,” Freeley says in the video.

Once Storm reaches the beach, the fawn runs a few feet and lies down. Storm follows it, licking and nudging the baby deer. Shortly after the fawn managed to run back into the water. This time, Freeley and another man swam out to rescue the fawn, which was covered in ticks and had an eye injury. It is currently being cared for at an area animal rescue until it can get back on its feet.
