Dog and Owner Live the ‘Good Life’

A Chicago man and his dog Bart won the "Here’s to the Goodlife” pet video contest for capturing their bond on film.

Chicagoan Curt Evrard and his dog Bart are living the “good life.”

At least that’s what contest judges thought after the duo submitted a video illustrating their bond. In a contest sponsored by pet care company The Goodlife Recipe, Evrard and Bart were named “Here’s to the Goodlife” pet video contest winners and were awarded $10,000.

The video showed Bart doubling as Evrard’s alarm clock, cooking partner, ski buddy and best friend.

Celebrity judge and country music singer LeAnn Rimes made the announcement earlier this month in New York City.

“As a fellow pet lover, I enjoyed participating in the Here’s to the Goodlife pet video contest,” Rimes said. “I shared my own video for the contest and was thrilled to see the amazing stories entered by pet lovers nationwide.”

On top of their cash prize, Evrard and Bart will be featured in an advertisement for The Goodlife Recipe pet food and receive a year’s supply of its products. In addition, a year’s supply of pet food will be donated to a Chicago pet therapy group in Evrard and Bart’s name.

A runner-up and four finalists were also announced. Emily Weaver from Springfield, Mo., was named runner-up; the finalists were: Cathy Burge from Nashville, Tenn., Ginger Virga from Laguna Beach, Calif., Suzanne Gill from North Attleboro, Mass., and John Furgason from New York City. All will receive cash awards and/or prizes for making it to the finals.

Contest entries were accepted from August through October 2007. Nearly to 100 video submissions were received and were judged on entertainment value, chemistry, creativity and connections.
