Dog Actors Nominated for Fido Film Awards

Contenders for the awards include the canine stars of "Marley & Me” and "Up.”

Will there be a doggie Oscar for Marley?

One of the dogs who played Marley in “Marley & Me” has been nominated for a Fido Film Award, the Oscar of the four-legged (not jet) set. The film, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, is based on John Grogan’s bestselling memoir about life with a mischievous Labrador Retriever.

Other animal-centric nominees include the animated dog stars of “Bolt” and “Up” and – in a rare non-dog choice – the dapper Mr. Fox, voiced by George Clooney in the upcoming animated flick “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

Fido Film Award founder Toby Rose told The Associated Press that the past year had seen “an unprecedented run of dog successes at the international box office.”

The Fido winners will be chosen by a panel of British film critics and announced at a ceremony in London on Nov. 22.
