Some think the Selkirk Rex is a cat in sheep?s clothing.

Chances are you’ve probably never seen one. Chances are, too, that once you do, you’ll never forget. This round, sweet-faced cat that wants nothing more than to curl up on your lap and soak up attention really does have curly hair. In fact, although the Selkirk Rex has existed only for about 20 years, it is steadily gaining a reputation for its mild-mannered disposition and unique looks.

“We call them Velcro cats, which is not just a description of their coats but of their personalities,” says California-based Kitti Ruttan, who breeds Selkirks with her 13-year-old daughter, Sarah. Ruttan also is an all-breed judge for The International Cat Association (TICA). “Selkirks are very interactive, people-oriented cats. They always greet my visitors. Basically, where you are, they want to be.”
