Come October, Grumpy will be animated in a three-issue comic book miniseries released by Dynamite Entertainment that follows “The World’s Grumpiest Cat” and her brother, Pokey, as they embark on a series of misadventures. We know Grumpy is likely seriously unimpressed and unhappy about the honor; we, on the other hand couldn’t be more excited!
“With her ever-present pout and sassy disposition, Grumpy Cat has won the hearts of people everywhere,” said Keith Davidsen, Marketing Manager of Dynamite Entertainment. “I can tell you, we’re thrilled, just absolutely thrilled, to bring this adorable curmudgeon’s misadventures to the comic world!”
To accompany the miniseries, Dynamite will be debuting a Grumpy Cat website wherein new comic strips starring the unforgettable duo will be released weekly. Additionally, the paper miniseries will be compiled and released as a hardcover graphic novel just in time for the holidays!
“One of the most important responsibilities for today’s comic publishers is creating content that will attract fresh new audiences to experience the wonders of the medium, and Grumpy Cat is the perfect combination of unbearable cuteness, instant fan appeal, and established multimedia presence to make just such a thing happen,” Davidsen said. “If you love the memes, the videos, and that irresistible scowl, then get ready for the wildly fun antics of Grumpy Cat and Pokey in Dynamite’s all-new, all-sensational Grumpy Cat comics!”
Grumpy Cat No. 1 will hit stores in October 2015. The first issue will be available in six different covers: a quartet of traditional variants, a Blank Authentix edition, and the first-ever Create-Your-Own Meme offering. You might want them all.
“I’m really excited to be a member of Team Grumpy Cat!” said Grumpy Cat writer Elliott R. Serrano. “Ever since she gained fame on the ‘internetz’, Grumpy Cat was destined to join the pantheon of animal personalities that have captured our imagination. Grumpy Cat gets to say the things that we all think, yet are too polite to say. When writing Grumpy Cat, I had to get in touch with that part of myself that’s not afraid to point out that while the cloud may have a silver lining, it’s still raining. Let’s face it, the reason we all love Grumpy Cat is because we each have a little Grumpy Cat inside of us.”
