It’s the season of giving and many organizations are extending their generosity to cats and other pets, too. Here’s how you can get involved. (Click names for more information.)
Ugly holiday sweaters are a Christmas standard. St. Louis-based Ugly Holiday Sweater TEASE offers a line of them in T-shirt form and pairs them with matching women’s briefs and men’s boxer shorts. All profits are donated to the Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA), a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and care for homeless dogs and cats, adoption services, a veterinary clinic, lost-and-found assistance and education and outreach. Orders must be placed by Dec. 17.

Tree House Humane Society The Cat’s Pajamas
Chicago cat lovers can ring in the new year while helping the Tree House Humane Society, a cageless, no-kill shelter that specializes in the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, abused and neglected stray cats and provides low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services for cats and dogs. The Cat’s Pajamas, their special New Year’s celebration, will take place at Room 13, an authentic speakeasy hidden below the Old Chicago Inn in the Lakeview neighborhood. The event will include live music by jazz/blues pianist Vince Willis; a midnight toast; caviar, gourmet chocolates and speakeasy-era hors d’eouvres, including vegan selections; and an open bar with premium Prohibition-era cocktails. Guests can upgrade and include a night’s stay at the Old Chicago Inn (complete with a special Tree House kitty add-on). All inn guests will receive a New Year’s survival kit and breakfast on New Year’s day.
