A four-post dog bed given to Sharon Osbourne by fellow dog lover Sir Elton John sold for $2,375 at a charity auction over the weekend.
Fans of Sharon and her rocker husband Ozzy Osbourne gathered from all over the world to bid for belongings from the Beverly Hills mansion the couple shared with a pack of housetraining-challenged dogs on “The Osbournes” reality show.
Other items that went on the block included a coat with embroidered bats that sold for $3,300, a pair of sneakers with skulls on them for $2,625, and a pair of Ozzy’s trademark round glasses for $5,250. A sculpture by French artist Edouard Drouot went for $15,500, and a painting by Gabriel Joseph Marie Augustin Ferrier sold for $5,312.
“We had Ozzy fans bidding against these sophisticated fine art buyers, which you don’t see every day,” says Darren Julien, whose company, Julien’s Auctions, ran the charity sale, in an interview with the Associated Press. “For the most part the metalheads were outbidding the art crowd.”
The auction benefited The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, which the couple set up after Sharon won a high-profile battle with colon cancer. The auction raised $800,000, more than twice what was expected, Julien says.
