Cat Takes Bullet for 3-Year-Old Boy, Saving His Life

Pet parent credits cat Opie as her son’s hero.

Everyone’s cat is a hero to them. A cat is heroic by stopping a dog from attacking, by helping us with stress or by providing emotional support just by being there. For Pennsylvanian Angelica Sipe, her cat Opie is the ultimate hero.

While at home with Opie and her son Daemire, Sipe heard a noise. That noise, it turned out, was a bullet going through her window in the room where her son was sleeping, Fox 43 reports. “It took me a second to realize what just happened. The first thing I did was check on my son and he was sound asleep. Then I saw my cat on the floor and that’s when I realized my cat was shot,” Sipe said.

The bullet went first into Sipe’s couch before hitting Opie.

“It came in the top of his head, out the bottom of his neck, and back into his shoulder and out his armpit rib area,” Sipe told Fox 43. From there it hit another couch, then a love seat before settling in a pillow where Sipe’s son was sleeping, missing him by only three inches. Sipe believes that had the bullet not gone through Opie first, it would have hit Daemire directly.

As for Opie, Sipe has racked up almost $1,000 in veterinary bills for him. He has some muscle damage, underwent surgery and at present has stitches and a drainage tube, but he’s expected to be fine, Fox 43 reports. Sipe felt she had to save him since he saved her son. She told the news station that she doesn’t believe anyone else was hurt in the incident, but that she no longer wants to stay in that neighborhood.
