Cat Sweaters for Charity

Kellie Pickler and designer Geren Ford partner with Fresh Step cat litter to benefit ASPCA during Cat Appreciation Month.

In honor of ASPCA’s Cat Appreciation Month this February, Fresh Step Cat Litter and country music artist Kellie Pickler have teamed up with renowned fashion designer Geren Ford to benefit the ASPCA.

Kellie Pickler, a self-proclaimed “crazy cat lady,” partnered with Fresh Step and Ford to design an exclusive, limited-edition sweater inspired by her cat, Pickles, an orange tabby cat Pickler rescued while living in Nashville, Tenn.

The sweater goes on sale today for $35 on the ASPCA’s website, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit abused and neglected cats and dogs.

Also starting today, cat lovers around the world can go visit this Facebook page and show off their own “crazy cat people” fashions by posting photos of themselves in cat clothing. Fresh Step litter will donate $1 (up to $100,000) to the ASPCA for every feline fan who shows their style and pride by posting a photo through Mar. 15, 2012.

For those of you who don’t secretly have a cat sweater hanging in your closet, Fresh Step has created an app that lets people digitally add one of the sweaters designed by Picker and Ford onto their uploaded photo.

According to a Chicago Tribune interview, Kellie Pickler’s new husband, songwriter Kyle Jacbos, is allergic to cats. The couple does, however, have three dogs – Chihuahua Moo-Moo, pit bull and Labrador mix Maddie and Chinese crested Pixie.

Pickles has gone to live with a family friend. Although she can no longer have a cat, Kellie Pickler will always consider herself a cat person; instead of owning one, she will wear one on her sweater!
