As flooding ripped through Missouri, placing the area in a state of emergency, one Fenton feline managed to survive the deadly wreckage by hunkering down in the most unlikely of objects: a litter box.
Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) rescue workers were boating through the flooded area on Dec. 31, 2015, when they heard the cries of a cat. Making their way to an immersed trailer, HSMO Disaster Response Team investigators Patience Scanlon and Brian Thomas peeked through the window of the trailer, spotting a tortoiseshell female cat floating on an unidentifiable object.
After carefully breaking the window, rescuers were able to apprehend the cat, and identify her makeshift flotation device as a litter box. She has since been reunited with her family.
