“Hope” is the thing with feathers, Emily Dickinson said. And fur, we say.
A cat in Russia has sat every day on the same spot where it was abandoned about a year ago, according to The Daily Mail. People began to notice the lonely tabby in 2015, when it was photographed on the manhole cover it occupies in Belgorod. It has reportedly returned every day.
The story emerged on VKontakte, the Russian equivalent to Facebook, by user Ostap Zadunayskiy, who posted about the cat after finding out that its owners once lived nearby before selling their apartment and leaving.
Apparently, locals saw the abandoned animal run after its owners when they drove away. Witnesses claim the cat has sat at the same spot where it was left ever since.
Zadunayskiy praised locals who continue to feed the cat over the years. Some commenters on his posted story said that could have more to do with the cat staying in the same spot.
Others, like us, blame it on a broken heart.
