Cat Film Festival at Sundance

Catdance takes place this weekend in Park City, Utah, alongside the celebrated independent film festival.

As cat videos continue to evolve, some can now be considered “cat films.” The Catdance Film Festival will elevate a few to that status by screening five films on Jan. 19 in conjunction with the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The films will be presented by AnnaLynne McCord, actress and cat activist, who will also unveil a cat hat specially designed for the festival, sales of which will benefit the ASPCA.

Five films make up the finalists: “Catalogue,” a comedy; “Fallen Star,” a mock biography of an aging YouTube sensation; “Dear Rocky,” an animated short; “A Cat’s Guide To Caring For A Human,” a how-to video with a spin; and “A Change of Heart,” a story that shows cat love defies stereotypes.

Each cat short screened at Catdance is up for a $10,000 cash prize. Home viewers will vote on their favorites and decide the winner. Screen Catdance finalists and cast a ballot for the viewer’s choice award by visiting Fresh Step Jan. 20 through Feb. 28, 2013. Voters, too can win prizes, such as the limited-edition cat hat and Fresh Step coupons. Other Catdance official selections will also be available on the site to view.

To purchase the hat, visit the ASCPA website. It retails for $39.99 and 100% of the purchase price of each hat sold will benefit the ASPCA.
