CAT FANCY Wins Big at Cat Writers Association Awards

Magazine gets 21 awards, including highest honor, the Muse Medallion.

CAT FANCY Magazine and Editor Susan Logan were awarded the highest honor by the International Cat Writers’ Association — the Muse Medallion — in the monthly magazine category for general excellence.

The awards were given at the CWA’s annual conference last month in White Plains, N.Y.

CAT FANCY racked up a total of 21 awards; other publications from Bowtie Inc. that earned awards were CAT FANCY’s Natural Cat, Cats USA and Kittens USA. was the recipient of three awards. CatChannel blogger Suzanne Stowe, who writes Crazy for Cats, was given a Muse Medallion for her work. “This is a well-organized and endearing blog. It is something I want to read on a regular basis,” wrote one judge of Stowe’s work.

Cimeron Morrissey was another CAT FANCY and CatChannel writer who was singled out for praise. She was given the Muse Medallion for her Foster Focus column, which runs regularly in CAT FANCY, as well as the Friskies Writer of the Year Award for the column. “Her message makes a difference in the lives of cats,” wrote one judge of Morrissey’s work.

Other Muse Medallion winners in the category Magazine Article – Health and General Care – were Fran Pennock Shaw for her CAT FANCY article “Combat Heartworms” and Kim Campbell Thornton for her Kittens USA 2010 article “Kittenproof Your Home.”

Thornton was also given the Purina Cat Chow Nutrition Award for “Nutrition for a Happy Healthy Cat” in Natural Cat; the Sticky Paws Training Award went to Helen Jablonski for “Kitten Behavior 101”in CAT FANCY.
