Basic headbands are so yesterday. Right now, it’s all about the cat ears – just ask Ariana Grande. Even better? A selfie wearing said cat ears. After all, it’s for a good cause.
June is ‘Cat Awareness Month’ in British Columbia. As such, the BC SPCA is all about the cat ear selfie to show support for kitties, and raise awareness to BC’s growing feline overpopulation problem.
“There are still too many cats and not enough homes for all of them,” BC SPCA community manager Lorie Chortyk told Vancity Buzz. “If they’re abandoned or left outside to roam, they will reproduce. Pet guardians must realize that they can actually save lives by having their cat spayed or neutered.”
The cat ear selfie is part of the BC SPCA’s Million Acts of Kindness initiative – a year-long enterprise focused on promoting compassionate acts towards animals. During the week of June 3, snap a pic of yourself donning your cat ears, upload it to social media, and hashtag it #MillionCats and #catsareeverywhere to connect with the cause.
Not sure where to snag your own pair of cat ears? Score them for $2 via the BC SPCA store!
Go on, take a cat ear selfie – you know you want to.
