The magical combination of café-plus-cat — or hedgehog or parrot or dog (it’s really a great time to be alive) — is in full force. Cities across the United States have spots for felines and coffee, a major exception being Los Angeles, California. Well, good news: that unenlightened era is about to end.
A cat café will finally open in Los Angeles, according to LAist. It will be an outlet of the Washington, D.C., establishment Crumbs & Whiskers and is scheduled to open in the fall.
Crumbs & Whiskers founder Kanchan Singh has secured a location and is looking for a food outlet to partner with, LAist reports. Per standard animal café protocol, the food and pet-play area will be separate. Guests will enter the cat play area, peruse menus and order items, which a runner will retrieve.
Singh told the news outlet that typical coffee shop fare will be on the menu. Think coffee, lattes, “cattucinos,” chai, teas and some sweets. In addition, they will sell a limited amount of cat treats to guests for that extra get-over-here-let-me-pet-you enticement.
The plan is to have 15 to 20 adoptable cats from local shelters in the café at a time. No word on cost yet but the D.C. outlet’s prices are $15 for 75 minutes of cat time. Singh told LAist to expect a decor that encapsulates cat lady chic, “like your really cool girlfriend who is really into cats apartment.”
That sounds way better than a terrible movie, and we’d like to line up now please.
